I have been asked to stop mimicking Rawlings – Actor reveals
Comic actor, Clemento Suarez, has said the family of former President Rawlings, has asked him to stop mimicking the late statesman.
“I was told to respect the dead and more so his personality as a former President,” he said.
The actor, born Clement Ashitey, who imitates the late former President to a fault, declined an opportunity to show his diverse talents in an interview on Accra-based, UTV.
This comes days after Mr Rawlings died at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, three weeks after he laid his 101-year old mother to rest.
With the country’s longest-serving leader gone, many media houses turned to Suarez to evoke memories of Mr Rawlings with renditions of some of his humorous moments.
But Suarez, a multi-award winning comedian said the former President’s family want an end to the practice.
He added that he would obey the wishes of the family.
“I was called by ex-president Rawlings’ family to stop imitating him from now until he is buried”.
Mr Rawlings died from an unknown illness on Thursday, November 12, 2020, at 10.10 am.
He was 73.
When he was alive, the former President had momentary bouts of laughter as Suarez delivered some of Mr Rawlings rib-wrecking jokes.
