Bee attack kills two girls, others injured

Two girls have died while 13 others have sustained various degrees of injuries after they were attacked by a swarm of bees.

The deceased; Esi Anobia, 13; Akua Hannah, 3, were in the company of their mother and others in search of firewood when the unfortunate incident happened.

Three of the severely injured persons are in critical condition and receiving treatment at Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital, Adom News reported.

The mother of the deceased, Dorah Quaye, narrating the incident said she was sleeping under a tree when she heard a buzzing noise so she woke up and realized bees had invaded the farm.

According to her, she started running with her last child tied behind her, only to reach the town and realised that her two other kids were not with her.

She said she quickly assembled a few townsmen to search for her children, but they were found dead from bee stings.

“It is very traumatic for me to have lost two of my children, it is so painful, I can’t even stop thinking about it,” the distraught mother said.

Bees disrupt meeting at a palace

It is the second time reports of bee attack is coming up this year.

On June 10, this year, a  swarm of violent bees disrupted a ceremony to hand over the Asokore Community Center to a contractor for rehabilitation and convert it into a two-storey- town hall Office Complex facility.

The program which was being attended by the Member of Parliament for New Juaben North, Nana Adjei Boateng also a Deputy Local Government Minister, the Municipal Chief Executive -Comfort Asante, Chiefs and few other persons ended abruptly.

The bees invaded the event ground from a beehive in the ceiling of one of the rooms at the Community Center, and suddenly launched an attack on the participants who ran helter-skelter for safety.
