Stanbic CEO, Alhassan Andani, retires after 14 years

Stanbic Chief Executive Officer, Alhassan Andani, is set to retire next month after 14 years at the helm.

In a statement paying glowing tribute to him, the bank said “Andani, as Chief Executive since 2006, transformed Stanbic Bank from a fledgling tier three bank into a profitable and highly regarded tier one bank, through vibrant, visionary and values-driven leadership.”

The bank has named Kwamina Asomaning as his successor when the decorated CEO leaves office on November 30, 2020.

Asomaning is the bank’s Executive Director and Head of Corporate Investment Banking.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the board said the new CEO has been a long-serving senior executive in Andani’s team for the past 10 years.

About Alhassan Andani

Andani began his career at the then SSB Bank Ltd in 1984, and then rose through the ranks to become the Regional Project Manager in the Upper Regions in 1987.

He was a Deputy Managing Director of Barclays Bank Ghana before joining Stanbic Bank. He was also appointed by Gold Fields Ltd as an independent non-executive director to its Board of Directors on August 1, 2016.

About the new CEO

“Kwamina came to Stanbic Bank from Goldman Sachs where he was a Vice President – Leveraged Finance. Congratulations to Kwamina Asomaning and Alhassan Andani,” excerpts of the statement read.

Since joining the bank in 2010, Asomaning has been involved in the strategic and daily management oversight for the bank’s Corporate Banking, Global Markets, Transactional Banking, and Investment Banking business units.

His remit includes client origination and strategy, asset allocation, short and long-term funding.

The new Chief Executive is a board member of Stanbic Bank Ghana Limited, Stanbic Investment Management Services Limited, and Chirano Gold Mines Limited.

He holds an MBA in Finance from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and a BSc in Business Administration from the University of Ghana Business School.

He is a Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA) with over 20 years of experience.

Previously, he served as the Vice President of Leveraged Finance at Goldman Sachs between 2006 and 2009.

He was an associate of High-Yield Credit Research at JPMorgan Chase between 2004 and 2006.
