9 remanded for allegedly vandalising Volvo Motor Grader in Tamale
Nine individuals have been remanded in police custody by the Tamale District Magistrate Court for allegedly vandalising a Volvo motor grader in the Northern Region.
The accused persons, who are set to reappear in court on December 19, 2024, include Yabuku Abdul Malik, Mohammed Yakubu, Ibrahim Seidu, Zaid Abubakari, Seidu Mufaz, Abubakar Hafiz, Imoro Suleimana, Abdul Aziz Alhassan, and Iddrisu Issah.
According to police reports, the suspects invaded the repair site where the vehicle was being fixed, claiming it belonged to the government.
They argued that the grader should be seized since the government had changed.
The police recovered several items from the suspects, including gas cylinders, hammers, a chisel, and other mechanical tools.
This incident is part of a larger trend of unrest in the Northern Region, where irate youth have been seizing and looting state properties since the change of government.
District assemblies, warehouses, and government officials’ residences have been affected by the chaos.
President-elect John Mahama and other stakeholders have appealed for calm, urging citizens to respect the rule of law. However, the unrest continues, with youth groups yet to adhere to these calls. The police have vowed to arrest all persons involved in the destruction of properties.
