9-month-old dies as father pours acid on wife and child

A nine-month-old baby girl has died while her mother is severely injured after her father bathed them with acid at Gomoa Pomadze in the Central Region.

Information gathered indicates that the suspect, Enoch Mensah, 35, who had issues with his wife Philomena Owusu, 29, went to her house on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, and informed her that he had rented a new house for her, so she should go with him to see the place.

According to Philomena’s sister, Portia Owusu, tensions peaked when the couple faced eviction due to Enoch’s failure to settle their rent arrears.

In a horrifying turn of events, Enoch returned to the residence shortly after the altercation, dousing Philomena and their infant daughter with acid, resulting in grievous injuries.

Philomena’s desperate screams alerted neighbours, who rushed to the scene only to find her and the baby girl severely burned by the corrosive substance.

Emergency responders swiftly transported them to the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital, but sadly, the infant could not be saved.

In recent developments, Philomena Owusu, who is fighting for her life after her husband bathed her with acid and killed their 9-month-old baby girl, has revealed that her husband, Enoch Mensah, wanted to kill her and save their daughter.

The victim, currently on admission at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, said her husband initially asked her to put the baby on the ground to have a discussion, but she declined.

Her conduct, she stated, angered the suspect and he poured the acid on them.

Philomena said her husband fled the accident when she started screaming for help.
