8-year-old girl dies in Dansoman Market fire

An 8-year-old girl tragically lost her life after being trapped in a devastating fire that engulfed Dansoman Market during the early hours of Wednesday, November 26, 2025.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) indicated that the fire was first reported at 00:02 hrs, and the initial team from Dansoman Fire Station arrived just 2 minutes later.

Upon arrival, they discovered the fire had reached an advanced stage, rapidly spreading in all directions.

In an effort to control the blaze, eight fire engines from Industrial Area, Ministries, National Headquarters, Madina, Weija, Anyaa, and Accra City were deployed, along with two private water tankers from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly.

The fire was contained by 01:51 hrs, brought under control at 03:03 hrs, and completely extinguished by 05:21 hrs after extensive operations to eliminate hidden hotspots.

Unfortunately, the young girl was trapped in one of the affected areas and could not be saved. Her severely charred remains have been handed over to the police for preservation and further investigation.

The fire destroyed numerous wooden structures and shops, along with their contents. Nevertheless, due to the prompt response of the firefighters, nearby structures were protected, averting further damage.

The cause of the fire is still not known, but investigations are currently underway.

Meanwhile, the GNFS has urged the public to remain alert and exercise caution in market areas to avert future incidents.
