8-year-old boy shoots his 12-year-old brother

An eight-year-old boy has accidentally shot and killed his 12-year-old brother at Twifo-Ahyire in the Central Region.

According to a police report, the father of the boys, Samuel Hegbige, who is a farmer and hunter allegedly left his gun in the open after his return from the farm.

While playing with the gun, the eight-year-old pointed it at his brother who was having a meal, and pulled the trigger, killing him instantly.

Officers from the Twifo Praso District Police Command led by Superintendent Charles Addai Boateng were immediately called to the scene and arrested the father.

The eight-year-old boy was initially subjected to interrogation by the police but was subsequently released back to the family.

Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing.

This comes after a 10-year-old boy mistakenly shot himself with a gun he saw on the ground at Osino in the Eastern Region in February this year.

According to reports, he saw the locally manufactured pistol on the street of Osino while searching for metal scraps, locally known as ‘alumi’.

He is said to have hit the pistol with a stone, and it fired, hitting him in the chest.

According to an eyewitness who only identified himself as Mensah, the boy was walking with his father when the unfortunate incident occurred.

The police were called to the scene and began investigations immediately.

Meanwhile, it was unclear how the pistol got to the scene.
