It is a fact that certain professions demand round-the-clock duty throughout the year, even during the holiday season.
This often results in people unable to spend quality time with their friends and family.
In most cases, it’s first responders, such as police officers, firefighters, prison officers, and emergency medical technicians, who work on holidays.
The Ghana Report has taken the initiative and listed some careers and professionals who work all the time, holidays inclusive.
Health Practitioners
Doctors, nurses, and other medical practitioners have great jobs. Working on Christmas Day is one thing that is not great about their jobs. Being on call and working on undesirable shifts is a regular occurrence for some doctors and nurses.
Accidents happen, people get sick, and doctors and nurses must be there to save lives.
Security Service Personnel
Crime happens every day; unfortunately, and potentially this could escalate in the festive season. Both official and private security services have to keep vigil holding themselves in readiness for any eventuality.
Firefighters
Fire outbreaks are rampant, indiscriminate, and unpredictable, especially when people are gathered for activities to celebrate the season.
Out of excitement, people might be careless about their surroundings; hence, tragedies could happen, and firefighters must be on guard for such situations.
Journalists and Media Practitioners
We live in a 24/7 news cycle, and that means thousands upon thousands of anchors, reporters, and production staff have to work on Christmas Day. A ton of content is produced every minute of every day, and Christmas Day is no exception.
The Armed Forces
The armed forces will also have to stay on duty to deliver their services to the country by guarding the country as its citizens enjoy the best of the season.
Immigration Officers
In this season, there is a lot of traveling in and out of the country, hence immigration officials have to work around the clock to protect the borders of the country.
Prisons Officers
There are prisoners all across the countries of the world. Prison officers are to admit new prisoners and watch over prisoners during their penal servitude.
Hospitality And Hotel Management (Hoteliers)
This season is a harvest season for the hospitality and hotel industries.
Expatriates are trooping into the country to celebrate the season, as Ghana is known for its ‘Detty December’ activities.
As a result, many people from across the world visit Ghana and these visitors fall on the hospitality and hotel industries for comfort and accommodation all through the season.
