8 dead, others in critical condition following Yeji-Kumasi highway accident

A tragic accident that occurred on the Yeji-Kumasi Highway in the Bono East Region has claimed eight lives.

Eleven others are in critical condition, receiving treatment at Mathias Hospital in Yeji.

The accident occurred on Monday, April 28, 2025, around 5:30 p.m. near Nyumuase in the Atebubu-Amantin Municipality.

The incident involved a minibus with registration number AS 4360-23, carrying 19 passengers from Ejura to Yeji.

Reports indicate that all the victims, believed to be businessmen involved in cattle trading, were returning from their day’s activities when the accident occurred.

A survivor recounted that the driver was speeding when the vehicle hit a pothole, causing the crash.

Abdul-Nasir Dauda, the Pru East District Chief Executive (DCE), also pointed to the poor state of the road from Amantin to Yeji as a contributing factor to frequent accidents on the road.

He appealed to drivers to exercise caution along the route.

This comes after eight people were confirmed dead following a ghastly accident involving a Sprinter van and a bus at New Ayaase in the Adansi-Fomena District of the Ashanti Region.

The gruesome accident occurred on the afternoon of Tuesday, April 22, 2025.

The crash occurred when the Sprinter bus travelling from Kumasi to Fosu attempted a dangerous overtaking of a Toyota Corolla heading towards Fomena.

In the process, the Sprinter collided head-on with an oncoming long bus with the registration GW-8455-23 from Kumasi, forcing the Corolla to veer off the road uncontrollably.

The impact was so severe that the Sprinter split in two, with one half somersaulting off the road.

Reports indicated that six victims died on the spot, while two others died at the hospital.
