Seven officers of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) sustained injuries following a fire tender accident at Kade in the Eastern Region.
In a statement, the GNFS said the accident occurred on Sunday, July 21, 2024, while they were responding to an emergency at Otwenkwanta.
The fire tender, bearing the registration number FS 438, overturned while navigating a curve on the outskirts of Kade.
“Seven crew members were injured in the accident. Five remain at Akwatia St Dominic’s Hospital, while two are in critical condition at the Kade Government Hospital. Fortunately, one crew member escaped unhurt.
“The cause of the accident is being investigated,” the statement said.
The GNFS wished the injured officers a speedy recovery and commended their bravery.
The officers were responding to an accident involving a cargo truck and a tricycle on the Dormaa-Berekum road.
A statement from the service confirmed that the officers received treatment at the Dormaa Presbyterian Hospital in the Bono Region.
The statement signed by the Director of Public Relations of the Ghana National Fire Service, ACFO 1, Timothy Osafo-Affum, said the cause of the crash, which made the vehicle somersault and land on its roof, was not yet known.
In February of the same year, a fire tender responding to a distress call got involved in an accident on a section of the Kwame Danso-Atebubu highway, leaving five in critical condition.
The tender attempted to swerve a motorrider who carelessly crossed the fire truck, leading them to skid off the dilapidated road.
The fire tender reportedly lost its balance and somersaulted thrice on the highway, landing on its roof in a nearby bush.
