7 charged for assaulting senior police officer at Tesano

Seven men have appeared before the Achimota District Court for allegedly conspiring to assault a senior police officer at the Tesano Police Station in Accra.

The accused, including Ebenezer Yaw Ankomah, a 29-year-old student; Festus Annor, 27, an okada rider; Eugene Ekow Enchil, 32, a dispatch rider; Anthony Amponsah, 25, a blogger; Muskin Mohammed, 28, a dispatch rider; Ishawu Mumuni, 25, an okada rider; and Banisah Joseph, 31, a dispatch rider, have been charged with conspiracy to commit crime, assault on a public officer, and unlawful assembly.

According to police records (Tesano Case R.O. No. 299/2025), the incident occurred on October 8, 2025, around 2:30 p.m., when the first accused, Ankomah, allegedly led about 40 motorbike riders to the Tesano Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD).

The group reportedly arrived at the station, honking their horns and chanting war songs, in what police described as an attempted riot over undisclosed grievances.

Superintendent Mrs. Comfort Forkah, the Divisional MTTD Commander, stepped out to engage the group but was allegedly attacked and assaulted.

Police officers at the scene managed to subdue and arrest seven of the men, while others fled.

The suspects were handed over to the Tesano Divisional CID for further investigation.

After police inquiries, they were charged and brought before the Achimota District Court on three counts: conspiracy to commit crime (assault on a public officer), assault on a public officer contrary to Section 205 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), and unlawful assembly contrary to Section 296(21) of the same Act.

The prosecutor, B. Arther, told the court that the actions of the accused were unlawful and posed a threat to public order.

The case, investigated by Detective Sergeant Meshack Nkrumah, has been adjourned as the court considers whether to grant bail or remand the accused.
