Ibrahim Adjei, a policy analyst and the Resident Country Director for International Investments LLC, has asked President John Dramani Mahama to reconsider using the private jet owned by his brother for official travel.
He raised the concern during a television discussion on Monday while speaking on the morning program Breakfast Daily. He believes the travel arrangement risks creating doubts about transparency within the presidency.
Adjei stressed that presidential decisions must always protect public confidence in government institutions and warned that certain arrangements may appear questionable even when leaders follow the law.
According to him, the use of a family-owned aircraft for official duties invites unnecessary speculations, such as citizens suspecting hidden benefits exchanged between political leaders and relatives.
Adjei explained that politics rarely offers favours without expectations attached and therefore encouraged the president to eliminate situations that might suggest personal advantage.
He argued that transparency should guide every aspect of presidential travel decisions.
Adjei believes the presidency must remain cautious about actions that could undermine public trust since many citizens closely monitor how leaders manage national resources and personal relationships.
He added that perceptions often influence public judgment more strongly than technical legality.
“Even lawful decisions can damage credibility if they appear ethically questionable”, he said.
The analyst also suggested an alternative solution for presidential travel arrangements.
Such an approach, he said, would remove doubts about favouritism or hidden agreements.
He also noted that security considerations often require specialised aircraft for presidential travel.

His remarks arrive amid increasing public discussion about recent presidential travel choices. Observers have noticed that businessman Ibrahim Mahama owns the aircraft reportedly used during some trips.
Ibrahim Mahama is widely known as the brother of President John Dramani Mahama. Their family connection has intensified public debate about the travel arrangement.
Critics argue that the situation could create possible conflicts of interest within government operations. Supporters, however, claim the arrangement might simply offer convenience or cost savings.
