6 Negative Thoughts You Need To Put To Rest
We all have an inner voice that is constantly talking to us. You know, the one that tells you to eat that doughnut, or the one we admit talking to sometimes when caught talking to ourselves.
It can also make you feel all kinds of bad things about yourself. We all need to set boundaries with ourselves and put an end to the negative wheel of thoughts. Here are things you should stop letting that voice in your head make you feel.
My weight isn’t good enough
Thanks to social media, advertisements, and insane clothing sizes, we all too frequently tell ourselves that we are too fat or skinny. Growing up, I was always super skinny.
I ate enough, I just had a fast metabolism. One time, a guy told me he didn’t want to date me because he liked me, and I quote, “a girl with meat on her bones.” Little did he know, I just couldn’t gain weight. Now, I have more meat on my bones and have no time for people who put me down.
Girl, your weight doesn’t define you. Your morals and values do.
My height sucks
Ugh, no it doesn’t. This is one thing we literally have no control over. Sure, we can adjust it by the shoes we wear. Are you a tall girl who loves heels? Or are you a short girl who loves flats? Rock it. If someone doesn’t like you for your height, including you, they clearly haven’t taken the time to get to know the real you.
I’m not successful enough
News flash: most twenty-somethings aren’t millionaires, or even know what they really want to do with their lives. Even if you know what you want to do, it takes time to build momentum.
Social media certainly shows a lot of glitz and glam, but sometimes those magical vacation destinations aren’t realistic. It’s so hard to remember that it’s okay to not be perfect and have it all together at such an early age. If you want something, go get it.
If someone stands in your way, go around them. If you’re standing in your own way, move! This is your life. Take the reins. And don’t beat yourself up if you’re not where you want to be just yet.
I feel so alone/No one loves me
I call bullsh*t. There are around seven billion people on this planet. You aren’t alone. There is always someone to talk to. I know what it feels like to feel alone. Believe me, there is help and there are answers.
Whether you get help at your university, find a professional, or confide in a friend or family, someone is bound to understand. Sometimes they might not get it, but be patient and allow someone in. The mind can be a scary place. It helps to get out of there and remember that there’s a beautiful world to explore.
I’m stuck
Oh, my goodness. This is one that I’ve fallen victim to so many times over the years. Chances are that no one is holding you against your will. If they are, please seek help. Otherwise, realize that this is just your imagination. The big picture can be too overwhelming.
Take life one step at a time. Breaking it down into smaller, more manageable pieces can allow you to feel more confident. No one is you and that’s your gift to the world.
I’m ugly
Haven’t you heard that beauty is in the eye of the beholder? Play up those assets and go for it! Do you have pretty eyes, love earrings, or have a thing for shoes? Regardless, take time to experiment with what makes you feel beautiful. The possibilities are endless. Beauty doesn’t stop at looks. Inner beauty is key to feeling confident. And confidence is always sexy. While it can take time, it can be exhilarating to find your confidence.
Negativity is an ugly trap that we call fall into. Be brave enough to break free of its grip. Positivity is so liberating if you give it a chance. It’s the girl code to keep each other moving in the right direction. Starting and ending each day with positive thoughts and affirmations have been essential to my outlook on life. Fake it ‘til you make it. Girl, you’ve got this.
