“I’ll Take Cash for Votes if Offered” – Pope Skinny Says Amid Election Season
Veteran Ghanaian rapper Pope Skinny has made a bold statement about his stance in the upcoming December 7 elections, openly sharing that he is ready to accept financial offers from any politician or political party that approaches him.
Amid a challenging financial climate for musicians—exacerbated by advertising bans on alcoholic beverages—Pope Skinny sees political endorsements as a viable means of income.
He emphasized that he is willing to vote for any party willing to financially incentivize his support, stating, “If they bring it, I’ll take it; any party that brings it, I’ll gladly accept.”
Speaking in an interview with Amansan Krakye, Pope Skinny explained that musicians have lost a significant income stream with recent bans on promoting alcoholic products.
With this in mind, he feels no hesitation about backing a candidate if financial support is provided.
“If they won’t allow us to do adverts for alcoholic beverages and a politician brings me money, I will gladly take it,” he said, adding that the restrictions have left musicians in a difficult position, driving them to look for other opportunities for endorsement deals.
The rapper further explained his pragmatic view on politics, pointing out that many major political parties offer similar promises.
According to Pope Skinny, regardless of who is elected, the usual political agenda remains largely the same. He elaborated, “When they’re voted into power, it’s only one thing they do, so if they bring something small for me to vote, then why not take it?”
This frank admission underscores Pope Skinny’s growing frustration with the economic constraints faced by musicians and creative professionals.
By openly expressing his willingness to engage with any party offering financial backing, he’s highlighted how the political climate has become an avenue for survival, especially for those in the entertainment industry.
