National Security officials in the Northern Region have arrested 45 foreign nationals in Tamale during a coordinated crackdown on cross-border crime and other illegal activities.
The operation, carried out across multiple communities in the Tamale metropolis, was based on intelligence gathering and surveillance.
Those detained include 12 Ivorians, 31 Burkinabé, and two Liberians.
Preliminary investigations suggest that some were misled into coming to Ghana with promises of travel to Europe, while others were reportedly recruited into the QNET network.
Authorities say the operation has revealed signs of a broader syndicate involved in human trafficking and fraudulent recruitment across borders.
Confirming the arrests, the Northern Regional Security Liaison Officer, RSM Adam Mohammed, said profiling of the suspects indicates that many had fallen victim to organised criminal networks operating internationally.
He added that intelligence points to the likelihood that more individuals remain ensnared in the system, with ongoing efforts to trace and rescue them.
RSM Mohammed further stated that, after profiling and documentation, the 45 individuals were handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service for appropriate action in accordance with the law.
He appealed for calm among the public and reaffirmed that National Security, working closely with other state agencies, remains committed to safeguarding peace, security and stability in the Northern Region.
