A 33-year-old man has been shot dead in a communal violence at Namiboku near Nalerigu, in the North East Region.
The deceased, Alhasssan Mahama, was shot in the back on Sunday, April 23. He died on the way to the hospital.
The Ghana Report sources revealed that the violence occurred due to a protracted land dispute between the people of Namiboku and Sumsubgu.
Assemblyman for the area, Ceaser Sadat Tizaanibeni, tells The Ghana Report that on Sunday dawn, the two communities engaged in a fierce battle with the firing of sophisticated guns.
Several houses were torched, and properties were destroyed due to the clashes.
The North East Regional Command responded to the distress call and managed to bring the situation under control.
No arrest has been made since the unfortunate incident.
Although Ghana has been hailed as a haven of peace and a beacon of democracy within Africa, it remains vulnerable to sporadic communal violence and inter-ethnic conflicts.
Authorities are trying to find an amicable way of resolving all these disputes.
