Three police officers have been confirmed dead in a fatal accident on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at Kyekyewere along the Accra-Kumasi Highway.
The accident occurred while the officers were on their way for police operational duties.
Information gathered indicates that the police officers were in a convoy heading towards Kwahu to ensure peace and security ahead of the Kwahu Easter celebrations.
Unfortunately, when the white Formed Police Unit (FPU) van reached Kyekyewere, one of its tyres burst, causing the vehicle to somersault and land in a ditch.
The force of the accident resulted in the doors of the vehicle coming off, leading to the ejection of the three officers.
Immediately after the accident, the other police officers in the convoy rushed to assist the officers in the accident vehicle and rushed them to the Suhum Government Hospital, where the three officers were confirmed dead.
The deceased officers are Chief Inspector Michael Adzaho, PW Inspector Theresa Zampiah, and General Corporal Emmanuel Asamoah.
They were all with the Formed Police Unit (FPU) of the Ghana Police Service.
One other officer, General Corporal Samuel Jude Koufie, sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical attention.
A statement from the police said, “In line with Ghanaian tradition, members of the Police Management Board (POMAB) visited the families of the deceased officers to formally inform and commiserate with them.”
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, personally led some POMAB members to the FPU to formally inform unit personnel about the tragic incident.
May their souls rest well
