3 Nigerians jailed 10 years for Kumasi car theft

Three Nigerian nationals have been convicted and sentenced to lengthy prison terms for a string of vehicle thefts in Kumasi.

Francis Friday, Linus Agwazie, and Russell Ekenze were arrested by the Ashanti Regional Police on June 20, 2025, during a crackdown on criminal activities involving parked vehicles.

On July 22, 2025, at the Atasemanso Circuit Court, Ekenze pleaded guilty and received a 10-year sentence with hard labor.

His accomplices, Friday and Agwazie, pleaded not guilty, leading to separate trials.

The next day, Circuit Court 3 found Friday and Agwazie guilty on two counts each and sentenced them to 8 years concurrently.

Circuit Court 1 also imposed an additional 20-year concurrent sentence on all three for related charges.

On July 24, Circuit Court 2 convicted Ekenze again, adding another 10 years with hard labor, to run concurrently with his earlier sentence.

All three are now serving time at Kumasi Central Prison.

The Ashanti Regional Police hailed the convictions as a major victory against organized and transnational crime and called on the public to keep supporting efforts by reporting suspicious activities.
