3-month-old Ghanaian baby dies from COVID-19
A three-month-old baby has died after testing positive for the novel coronavirus in the Northern Region.
The baby is one of three people to have died in the region. She was referred from the Savelugu hospital but passed on shortly after arrival.
This makes her the youngest to have died in the country from the dreaded coronavirus, which has killed at least 66 people.
Samples taken, confirmed her positive to the deadly virus.
The Northern Regional Director of Health Services, Dr John Bertson Eleeza, was updating the media about happenings in the region.
He indicated that the oldest to have died in the region is an 80-year-old woman. She passed on in May at the Tamale Central Hospital.
The second is a 24-year-old who was referred from Bolgatanga in the Upper East region.
All of the region’s 17 active cases are not in critical condition and are being managed at home, Dr Eleeza added.
As of June 17, the Northern Region has 52 COVID-19 cases out of the country’s 12, 590 cases.
Ghana’s national COVID-19 related deaths stand at 66 with 4, 410 recoveries.
Meanwhile, documents available to theghanareport.com indicate that the reported number of deaths associated with the coronavirus is higher than what is being reported by the government.
The documents revealed that the Ashanti regional reported cases should be 38 and not 14 as contained in the National Situation Report of the Ghana Health Service.
