President John Mahama has posthumously promoted three members of the Ghana Armed Forces who tragically lost their lives in the August 6 helicopter crash.
Speaking at a solemn state funeral held in their honour on Friday, the President hailed the fallen personnel as true patriots who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their nation.
He praised their courage, dedication, and sense of duty, noting that their legacy would live on in Ghana’s collective memory.
“These men gave everything in service to our country; their bravery and commitment will forever be remembered,” President Mahama said.
Among those honoured were Wing Commander Peter Baafemi Anala, Flight Lieutenant Manaen Twum Ampadu, and Flight Sergeant Ernest Mensah Addo.
The Ghana Armed Forces officially conferred their new ranks as a mark of their exceptional service and sacrifice.
“Accordingly, I have approved the following promotions: Squadron Leader Peter Baafemi Anala is posthumously promoted to Wing Commander. Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu is promoted to Flight Lieutenant. Sergeant Ernest Mensah Addo is promoted to Flight Sergeant.
“These are not merely symbolic. They reflect the honour, respect, and gratitude owed to these officers for their selfless service,” the president said.
He further assured that all benefits due to the families would be adjusted to reflect the new ranks.
The crash, which occurred during a routine military operation, sent shockwaves through the nation and sparked widespread mourning.
President Mahama pledged the state’s unwavering support for the bereaved families and emphasised that their loved ones’ legacies would be preserved.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Armed Forces have committed to completing a full investigation into the crash and implementing necessary reforms to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
