Three staff members of the Ketu North Municipal Hospital have been arrested for alleged impersonation at Dzodze in the Volta Region.

The suspects are Collins Asilevi, a laboratory technician; John Delu, a record keeper; and Stella Kale, a community health nurse.

They posed as officials of a non-existent “National Drug Compliance Enforcement” stationed in Accra, according to the regional office of the Pharmacy Council and the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA).

They visited pharmacies in the area and seized medical supplies under the pretext of checking classification and expiry dates.

The trio managed to extort and dupe several owners over time.

However, some pharmacy owners suspected the trio of fraud due to the shady manner in which they carried out their inspections.

They reported the suspects to the Pharmacy Council office in Ho who also directed them to involve the police.

Suspecting that their cover had been blown, the three attempted to flee.

They were, however, arrested at the Akanu border after a hot chase by the police.

They were detained at the Dzodze police station and granted bail after their statements were taken.

Ketu North Police Commander, Superintendent Eric Vondee, confirming the arrest said they have begun investigations into the case.

The Volta Regional Director of FDA, Gordon Akurugu, said intent to mention a non-existent establishment was proof of their guilt.

He said the only bodies responsible for the regulation of drugs were the FDA and Pharmacy Council and not individuals.

Meanwhile, the regional health directorate and the hospital management have yet to officially comment on the issue.
