3 doctors tranferred from Effia-Nkwanta hospital over extortion
Three surgeons at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital have been transferred for extorting monies from patients and clients who deal with the facility.
Western Regional Director for the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Naa Dr. Jacob Mahama made this known during the commissioning of a Dialysis Unit at the hospital.
He warned that any staff caught engaging in any act of misconduct will not be pardoned.
“Our main challenge at Effia-Nkwanta is illegal collection of monies which our Director-General is always fighting; we all know here, what illegal collection of monies has done to some of our high level officers, the surgeons who were sent out from this facility, the main problem was illegal collection of monies,” he said.
“We have said that now we don’t need evidence that you have collected monies from somebody. If there is an allegation against you, we know what we will do to you because we cannot punish three high level specialists and now we have only one surgeon so we won’t spare you if you are caught,” he cautioned.
He however failed to mention the names of the three surgeons.
When asked why authorities chose to transfer persons found culpable of illegally taking monies from patients instead of dismissal, Dr. Mahama said the surgeons were made to signed a bond of good behavior.
Hospital management has directed all staff of the Effia-Nkwanta regional hospital to affix their name tags on their attire for easy identification.
They have also admonished patients and clients not to allow hospital personnel attend to them if they do not have their IDs attached to their attire.
