3 burnt to death in violent attack in Bunkprugu

A violent attack in the early hours of Friday at Nanik in the Bunkprugu/Nakpanduri District of the North East Region has left three people dead; their bodies burned beyond recognition.

Among the deceased is 27-year-old teacher Nashiru Maijida, a native of Walewale in the West Mamprusi Municipality.

Nashiru had been posted to Nanik two years ago before meeting his tragic fate.

The charred bodies have been transported to Binde Hospital for preservation and autopsy.

According to residents, the attack was carried out by a rival faction from Bimbagu, a neighboring community, amid an escalating chieftaincy dispute.

The assailants set fire to nearly 50 houses, destroying several properties in the process.

The conflict stems from opposition to a decision by traditional authorities to elevate the Chief of Nanik, Nanik Daana, to paramountcy status.

Before the attack, the chiefs and people of Bimbagu had publicly resisted the move, urging the National Security and the National House of Chiefs to intervene.

At a recent press conference, Bimbagu’s leadership went as far as warning Nanik Daana never to step foot in Bimbagu if he was promoted.
