An Accra Circuit Court has handed a 29-year-old head porter a 60-month prison sentence for presenting a five-year-old girl for a money ritual in Pokuase, Accra.

Isaac Gabianu was found guilty of kidnapping the victim from a public toilet in Accra and delivering her to a spiritualist.

However, the fetish priest, instead of participating in the ritual, reported the incident to the police along with the victim and the convict.

Initially pleading not guilty to the charge of child stealing, Gabianu was convicted by the court presided over by Mrs Christina Cann after the trial.

The court determined that the prosecution successfully proved the offence against Gabianu, leading to the imposition of a deterrent sentence.

During the plea for mitigation, Gabianu, who represented himself, maintained his innocence, stating, “I cannot confess to what I have not done.”

The facts of the case indicate that on April 3, 2023, around 7:30 pm, the complainant reported to the Railway Police Station in Accra that her daughter was missing.

The complainant had taken her five-year-old daughter to the Kantamanto Market in Accra and asked her to wait in front of a public toilet while she attended to the call of nature at about 5:30 pm.

After attending to her needs, the complainant could not locate her daughter.

On April 4, 2023, at about 12:30 am, the police in Pokuase received information that Gabianu had been arrested for an attempted money ritual and was brought to them by a spiritualist.

The prosecution further revealed that the spiritualist disclosed that Gabianu had brought the victim to him to be sacrificed for a money ritual.

During his caution statement, Gabianu admitted to the offence.
