The Kasoa Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old lady identified as Gifty Monica for allegedly stealing a six-month-old baby.
Information gathered indicates that the mother of the baby and the baby come from Winneba every Friday to visit the baby’s father who happens to be the suspect’s neighbour.
But last Friday when the mother and the baby got to the house, the baby’s father wasn’t home, so they proceeded to the room to sleep as they waited for the baby’s father.
Early Saturday morning, the nursing mother asked an 11-year-old child to help her look after her baby whilst she visits the toilet.
It is reported that not long after the mother left for the toilet, the suspect Gifty Monica came to the compound took the baby from the 11-year-old child and went to the toilet to tell the baby’s mother that the 11-year-old child wasn’t taking good care of the baby hence she was going to help her take care of the child till she’s done.
Gifty Monica then took the baby out of the house and since Friday, October 20, neither Monica nor the baby could be found.
Whenever people reached out to her on the phone, she would tell them to meet her up at a specific location for the baby but always failed to turn up at the location.
The matter was reported to the Kasoa police, who traced and found Gifty Monica on Monday morning, October 23 at Lapaz and arrested her.
The suspect has failed to tell the Police where she took the baby and what her intentions were.
The suspect is still in police custody assisting with investigations whilst the baby was returned to the mother.
