A tragic incident at Gomoa Buduburam in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region has left a 23-year-old woman dead, following allegations that she was poisoned after a dispute over GH¢100.
The deceased, identified as Theresa Darkoah, is alleged to have been poisoned by a man known as Kofi Emma, popularly called Blackee, who reportedly had a romantic interest in her.
According to accounts, the incident followed a disagreement over money he had earlier given her.
A close friend of Theresa, who spoke to the media, said the two women had known each other for years and worked together.
She explained that the suspect had expressed interest in Theresa, also known as Afia, but she made it clear she did not share the same feelings.
The friend said tensions escalated when the suspect asked to visit Theresa.
Theresa reportedly told him she could not host him because her standing fan was broken and the heat was unbearable.
She allegedly asked him to send GH¢100 to repair the fan before any visit could take place.
According to the friend, the man sent the money but later demanded a refund after Theresa stopped responding to his calls.
When the money was not immediately returned, he allegedly threatened to kill her.
Despite efforts by the friend to calm him down and assure him that the money would be refunded, he reportedly continued making threats.
Shortly afterwards, Theresa called her friend complaining of severe chest pains and general discomfort. She was rushed to the hospital on a motorcycle but sadly died shortly after arrival.
The friend further disclosed that the suspect had earlier warned that if he did not come personally, he would send someone.
It later emerged that an individual had delivered medication to Theresa before she fell ill.
Hospital officials later confirmed that she had ingested a poisonous substance.
The suspect is currently on the run, and police have launched a manhunt to locate and arrest him as investigations continue.
