21 LGBTQ+ advocates remanded by Ho Court
The Ho Circuit Court has remanded some 21 persons pushing LGBTQ+ agenda for unlawful assembly.
They have gathered in Ho at the Nurses and Midwives hotel for a conference.
The accused persons, 16 females and five males, suspected to be lesbians, gays, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex, are believed to be from the Greater Accra, Ashanti, Upper East, Upper West, Western, Eastern, Northern and Volta regions.
The court presided over by Justice Felix Dadzomor refused the bail application by the counsel for the accused persons.
The case has been adjourned to June 4, 2021, while suspects have been remanded in the custody of the regional police command.
In February, the LGBTQ+ community came under the spotlight after national security locked up an apartment serving as an office for LGBTQI+ Rights Ghana in Accra.
This caused a stir with human rights advocates frowning on such activities, while churches, the Islamic community, and traditional leaders backed the government’s decision against the legalisation of LGBTQ+.
