NAFAC 2022 launched in Cape Coast
The 2022 edition of the National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFAC) has been launched in the Central Regional capital, Cape Coast ahead of the celebrations in December.
This year’s celebrations which is part of this year’s ‘December in GH’ festivities will be held on theme, “Reviving Patriotism, Peace and Unity through Cultural Diversity for Sustainable Development.”
Cape Coast will welcome a number of dignitaries including President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, diasporan community and other relevant stakeholders from the hospitality industry from Dec.16 -19 as it hosts the prestigious festival aimed at promoting unity, peaceful coexistence and nation building through Ghana’s rich culture and arts.
Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, the Omanhen of the Oguaa Traditional Area, Justina Marigold Assan, Regional Minister for the Central Region, Kwasi Gyasi, Regional CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority, and other figures from the hospitality sector attended the launch.
In a presentation, the Central Regional Director for the Centre for National Culture (CNC), Dorcas Salamatu Alhassan noted that earnest preparations were underway for this year’s celebration.
She stated all significant players were working together to ensure the programme’s success on December 16.
“Plans are in motion to provide a glitzy celebration for everyone traveling for the major festivities and we are excited to welcome everyone,” she said.
She disputed assertions that the festival had lost its enthusiasm since stakeholders had worked to preserve and improve upon it.
“The Commission on Culture and its Centres for National Culture have done so well for keeping this festival for the past 60 years. We have tried very hard to keep the National Festival of Arts and Culture and made it more vibrant and attractive against the assertion that NAFAC has lost its enthusiasm,” she said.
Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II who chaired the launch urged all parties in the industry to develop creative plans that are expressly intended to help NAFAC gain international recognition, stressing that such initiatives will advance the tourism sector.
He continued, “Ghana is blessed with interesting reservoir of numerous cultural components that offer promise for investment. It takes combined efforts from all stakeholders in the country to make it a reality.
“Conscious efforts from all stakeholders will be needed to contribute their assistance to help drive all praiseworthy plans through to success.”
For her part, the Central Regional Minister, Justina Marigold Assan pledged the support and commitment of the Regional Coordinating Council to ensure the success of the event.
