2026 WCQ: Comoros beat Chad to cut Ghana’s lead to three points in Group I
A new development has occurred in Group I of Africa’s qualification phase for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana’s lead at the top of the group standings has been reduced from five points to three points following Comoros’ recent victory.
Comoros defeated Chad 1-0, marking their fourth win in six qualification matches and moving them to second place in the standings with a total of 12 points.
This victory has pushed fellow island nation Madagascar, which has 10 points, down to third place, while Mali sits in fourth with nine points.
Ghana initially held a five-point lead after achieving a 5-0 win over Chad and a 3-0 victory against Madagascar in their doubleheader. The Black Stars have won five out of their six games, with their only loss occurring against Comoros.

Comoros’ next FIFA World Cup qualifier takes place on September 3 against Mali in a crucial tie that could effectively rule Mali out of contending for the group’s sole automatic qualification spot should the Eagles lose.
