2026 WC Qualifiers: Ghana takes command of Group I with victory over Madagascar

The Black Stars of Ghana showcased their dominance in Group I by defeating Madagascar 3-0 in their Round 6 CAF World Cup qualifier at the Grand Stade Al-Hoceima stadium in Morocco.

The Stars entered this match following a convincing 5-0 victory over Chad and maintained their impressive form during this international break.

Similar to their previous fixture in Accra, the Black Stars were quick to make an impact, scoring as early as the eleventh minute. Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey connected with a cross from captain Jordan Ayew following a free kick and headed in the opening goal of the game.

Ghana continued to pose a threat but was unable to convert additional opportunities.

As the first half progressed, Madagascar began to find their rhythm and created several decent chances, however, Ghana’s defense stood strong, successfully holding off any threats until halftime.

In the second half, Ghana regained control early on and just nine minutes in, they doubled their lead thanks to the same duo: Jordan Ayew and Thomas Partey.

This time, the Black Stars’ captain delivered a well-placed corner kick, which Partey headed in for his second goal of the match.

Ghana continued to dominate and, five minutes later, Thomas Partey set up Jordan Ayew, who quickly passed to Mohammed Kudus. Kudus calmly slotted the ball home, bringing the score to three goals for Ghana.

Ghana was in complete control after the third and managed the remainder of the game fairly well possessing the ball and killing the momentum of their opponents.

The win puts Ghana in a commanding position at the top of Group I with 15 points. Madagascar sit second with ten points and Mali sit in third place with 9 points.
