2025 WASSCE: Results reflect genuine student performance — GES
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has dismissed claims circulating about the 2025 WASSCE results, insisting the outcomes accurately reflect students’ true performance.
GES says the decline in this year’s results is largely due to the strict enforcement of exam rules.
6,295 candidates had their papers cancelled for bringing foreign materials such as prepared notes, textbooks, and printed sheets into exam halls.
An additional 1,066 candidates still have their results withheld pending investigations into suspected malpractice.
This follows comments from former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, who reportedly blamed poor performance on mismanagement within GES.
The Service has urged the public to ignore those claims, describing them as an attempt to divert attention from his own lapses in overseeing the exam system.
GES also clarified that teachers’ allowances have not been cancelled, pointing out that the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department has already explained the reasons for the delayed November payments.
According to GES, the 2025 WASSCE was conducted under tougher supervision and tighter invigilation.
These measures helped expose students and staff attempting to cheat and “restored integrity to the examination process,” ensuring the results truly represent students’ abilities.
The Service reminded candidates that starting May/June 2026, Ghana will fully join the international West African WASSCE schedule.
Students are encouraged to prepare well, as GES says it will not compromise examination integrity.
GES reaffirmed its commitment to working with teachers, parents, communities, civil society groups, and WAEC to strengthen teaching, learning, and the credibility of all national examinations.
