2025 AFCONQ: Rwanda’s Uwikunda to officiate Ghana’s opener against Angola

37-year-old referee from Rwanda, Samuel Uwikunda, has been appointed to officiate the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations opening qualifying match between Ghana and Angola at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Uwikunda, a seasoned official in African football competitions, brings a wealth of experience to this prestigious role, having previously overseen crucial matches in the CAF Champions League, the CAF Confederation Cup, the Championship of African Nations (CHAN), and the Africa Cup of Nations.

Joining Uwikunda on the officiating team are his compatriots Dieudonne Mutuyimana as Assistant Referee I, Eric Mugabo as Assistant Referee II, and Ruzindana Nsoro as the Fourth Official.

Sanusi Mohammed from Nigeria will serve as the Match Commissioner, ensuring the smooth running of the match, while Elsayed Morad Attaalla from Egypt will work as the Referee Assessor.

The highly anticipated match is set to kick off at 16:00Hrs at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Thursday, September 5, 2024.
