2025 AFCONQ: Ghana cannot afford to lose to Sudan- Elisha Owusu
Black Stars midfielder Elisha Owusu has termed Ghana’s upcoming game against Sudan as a game Ghana’s National Men’s Football Team cannot afford to lose. The tie is the first of back to back games against Sudan.
He said this in an interview with the media after the Black Stars held their first training session at the Accra Sports Stadium ahead of the 2025 AFCON qualifier against Sudan on Thursday, October 10 at 16:00 GMT.
Owusu was part of 11 Black Stars that trained at the venue with majority of the players coming from England including Jordan Ayew of Leicester City, Brandon Thomas-Asante of West Bromwich Albion and Mohammed Kudus of West Ham.
Owusu’s AJ Auxerre teammate Gideon Mensah and AS Monaco’s Mohammed Salisu represented the French Ligue 1 at the training session. Owusu praised the improved quality of the Accra Stadium pitch.
Ghana ranks third in Group F with just a point from two games and trails second-placed Sudan by two points.
“We know that it is a very important game for us. I know it’s going to be very difficult for us but we are going to stick together and make (do) our best to win these two games. We know what we have to do. This game is very important to us. We cannot afford to lose this game so we will make everything (do everything possible) to play a very very good game and win this game.”
