Athletic Bilbao striker, Inaki Williams is set to miss Ghana’s final round of games of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and Niger.
This emerged after the Spanish club confirmed that the 30-year-old had suffered a hamstring injury ahead of their La Liga game against Real Valladolid on Sunday at the José Zorrilla Stadium.
According to the club, Williams has been ruled out of the game since he could not recover on time.
“The forward will be unavailable for Sunday’s La Liga clash with Real Valladolid,” the club said in a statement.
“Athletic Club forward Iñaki Williams will miss Sunday’s LaLiga clash with Real Valladolid after straining his left hamstring muscles.”
Inaki Williams, who has scored five goals in the ongoing season was named in Black Stars’ 25-man squad for the games scheduled for next week.
Meanwhile, Williams is expected to undergo a scan on Monday to know the extent of the hamstring injury.
The Black Stars will open camp on Sunday in Accra and will hold a series of training sessions at the Accra Sports Stadium before travelling for the Matchday five games against the Palancras Negras on November 15 at the Estádio 11 de Novembro before wrapping up their games against Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium three days later.
The Black Stars currently sit in third place in Group F, with only two points from their four matches, trailing both Palancas Negras and Sudan and are aiming to qualify for the 2025 tournament in Morocco against all odds.
