2025/2026 academic year not fully single-track – GES clarifies
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has clarified that the 2025/2026 academic calendar has not fully reverted to the single-track system, contrary to reports circulating in some media outlets.
In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the GES explained that the upcoming academic year will continue to operate with both single-track and double-track schools, as clearly outlined in the academic calendar released last week.
According to the statement, the new academic year officially begins on Saturday, 18th October 2025, when all first-year students are expected to report.
For single-track schools, the academic year will end on 21st August 2026, while double-track schools will close on 4th September 2026.
Daniel Fenyi, Public Relations Officer of the GES, noted that the clarification was necessary to ensure accurate and transparent communication with students, parents, and the general public, especially as preparations for the new school year get underway.
