Special voting for the 2024 elections has commenced in the Eastern and Western regions.

This follows the rescheduling of the exercise for these two regions, which was initially planned for Monday, December 2, 2024.

The EC announced the postponement during an emergency Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Sunday, December 1, after a defaced ballot paper marked for destruction was discovered outside the Checkpoint Printing House raising concerns about their integrity.

Although no issues were reported with the Western Region’s materials, the printing press responsible for the Eastern Region’s ballots also handled those for the Western Region.

As a precaution, the EC recalled and reprinted the ballot papers for both regions.

The voting started at 7.00 am and is expected to end at 5:00 pm, as indicated by the EC earlier.

So far, the voting exercise is going on smoothly.

The special voting exercise is typically organised for individuals assigned to election-related duties on the main polling day on December 7.

It includes personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces, National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), National Security, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana National Fire Service, and Information Services Department.

Additionally, it includes members of the National Ambulance Service, Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Prisons Service, Ghana Journalists Association, Ghana Police Service, and the National Media Commission.

Meanwhile, the results of the special voting will not be declared until after the general elections.
