The Electoral Commission (EC) has tasked some experts to critically assess the presidential nomination forms presented by aspirants for the 2024 election.

The team is expected to ascertain whether the presidential candidates meet the standards to contest in the polls.

Chairperson of the Commission, Madam Jean Adukwei Mensa, revealed this when the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, presented his nomination forms today, September 9, 2024, at EC’s office in Accra.

She also disclosed that all aspirants have been granted five days to file their forms.

The filing period has been extended to five days from the previous two-day period to enable them to correct errors that may be detected.

She assured that the election process will be peaceful, transparent, and fair.

After receiving Dr. Bawumia’s forms, she said, “Indeed this is the first time a sitting Vice President has personally presented his nomination forms to the EC”.

Dr Bawumia in response said the filing of the forms is historic to him.

“For me, it is a very historic opportunity to submit these forms for the first time as a presidential candidate. I want to pray for God’s blessings for our dear country Ghana”.

Dr Bawumia was accompanied by his wife Samira Bawumia and other party officials.
