2024 Gothia Cup: Right to Dream beat Kalmar to record second consecutive victory
Ghana’s Right to Dream Academy has now secured consecutive wins at the 2024 Gothia Cup following a decisive 5-0 victory over Kalmar on Thursday, July 17.
They rounded off their third game of the competition in style after starting with a defeat this past Monday. Adansi Ampofo Adjei gave Right to Dream the lead just nine minutes into the match against the Swedish team.
Three minutes later, Daniel Israel Koffi doubled their lead, before Kenneth Tsokli (17’) and Ali Outtara (24’) added two more goals to close out the first half. Souleymane Soumaharo added the fifth goal of the game in the 54th minute, securing the 5-0 win.
The Western Region-based team had triumphed over Moldovan outfit Academia de fotbal Radu Rebeja with a 2-0 victory on Wednesday, marking their first win of the tournament.
This win followed a slow start, as they had succumbed to a 3-2 defeat against Swedish side IF Brommapojkarna in their opening game.
The U16 team, based in Old Akrade, delivered outstanding performances to bounce back from the initial loss and win consecutive matches.
The team, notably younger than many of their competitors, learned from their mistakes in the opening defeat to ultimately clinch the wins against Academia de fotbal Radu Rebeja and Kalmar.
The famous Academy, defending champions of the Gothia Cup, won the title against AIK in July 2023.
