The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, has urged parties and individuals participating in the 2024 elections to accept the outcome, regardless of the result.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, July 17, the head of the electoral management body assured all contestants of a credible and transparent process.

She further urged all losing parties to accept the election result as it will be free and fair.

“Surely there will be a winner and surely, there will be losers. And so we all call on our contestants to accept the outcome of the elections because we undertake and we commit to ensuring that the elections are free, they are fair, they are credible, they are transparent.

“So like the referee of the match this afternoon we commit to ensuring transparency in all aspects of our work. Our activities are open, as I mentioned, right from the registration through to the declaration of elections, everything is done in the full glare of the public, and nothing is hidden. And we will commit to this to maintaining and ensuring that level of transparency across all aspects of our work,” she said.

This comes after numerous complaints about the EC’s recent performance, including issues associated with Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) kits and errors in data published during the limited voter registration exercise.

The voter transfer process was plagued by challenges, which prompted some political parties to raise concerns about the commission’s readiness for the 2024 polls.
