2024 AFCONQ: We need to be compact to stop Angola from scoring – Otto Addo
Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has stressed the importance of a solid defensive performance as Ghana prepares to face Angola in their opening match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Black Stars will host the Palancas Negras at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Thursday, September 5, 2024.
Addo’s squad, announced last week, commenced preparations for the fixture on Monday at the Accra Sports Stadium and has since arrived in Kumasi to finalize their preparations.
“It is also very important for the spectators that we do not underestimate our opponents. Angola has a very strong team,” Addo told Max TV.
“They have players in La Liga, players in England’s Champions League, players in Portugal’s top division, and in France.
“So they are very strong. We need to be fully aware not to underestimate them. It is crucial for us to stick to our style of play. We also need to be particularly compact defensively to prevent them from scoring.”
Following the Angola match, Ghana will head to Morocco to face Niger in their second group game on Monday, September 9, 2024.
