A 20-year-old man, Anthony Yendor, has reportedly murdered his biological mother and two sisters in Tampaala, a suburb of Jirapa in the Upper West Region.
Reports indicate that the incident occurred on Sunday, 28 August 2022, after the suspect returned from a drinking spot.
The victims were 60-year-old Bozomo Yendor, his mother; Rebecca Yendor, 22; and Cynthia Dabuo, 45; also his biological sisters.
Anthony’s nephew, who has been identified as an eight-month-old infant, survived the ordeal but sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the Jirapa Saint Joseph Hospital.
The toddler was strapped to his mother, Cynthia’s back, when the suspect attacked her.
Confirming the incident, the Upper West Regional Crime Officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Reynolds Manteaw, said the suspect, an illegal small-scale miner, on Sunday returned from a drinking bar in the area around 8 pm.
Without provocation, he entered his mother’s kitchen, picked up a pestle, and pounded his relatives to death.
However, some neighbours of the family rushed to the compound to overpower him when they heard the commotion.
He was subsequently handed over to the police.
ACP Manteaw added that investigations are ongoing, and the suspect will be arraigned.
