2 students stopped from writing BECE after headmaster allegedly blows registration fees
Two students of the Gomoa Buduatta DA Junior High School were unable to write the first paper of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) after their headmaster allegedly squandered their fees.
According to reports, the head teacher allegedly collected the registration fees for the BECE from the parents to duly register them.
But when they turned up at the examination centre on Monday, August 7, they discovered that their index numbers were not on the list of candidates.
This rendered the students stranded and in tears, as their mates started the exams without them.
The incident caused outrage among the parents who angrily stormed the centre.
They contended that the headmaster’s actions have denied their wards the right to sit for the important examination.
Some of the agitated parents even threatened to confront the headmaster over his alleged negligence.
“What he has done to the students is not the best. At his age, he shouldn’t be doing this. We want to heckle him small to serve as a deterrent. When they were about to write the exams they went to check out their index numbers.
“Some of the students said the index numbers did not emerge. My child is at home because she couldn’t register as a result of the headmaster failing to register her,” one angry parent said.
“Your ward is going to write the exam and has prepared only to be told at the last minute that their names are not included. How would you feel if they were your ward? It is painful to enrol your child in school for such a thing to happen,” another lamented.
They, therefore, called on the headteacher who was absent to rectify the situation immediately.
Over 600,000 students started the annual exams on Monday, August 7, 2023.
They will be done with their last paper on Friday, August 11.
They include 300,323 males and 300,391 females from 18,993 schools nationwide.
