Two siblings, Safianu Osumanu and Aishatu Osumanu, have been remanded in police custody by the Ashaiman District Court.

According to the facts, the accused persons verbally assaulted four public officers at the court premises.

The two, aged 25 and 31, were remanded after pleading not guilty to five counts of assault on public officers, offensive conduct, and disturbance of court.

The court presided over by Mr. Simon Gaga, remanded them to reappear on February 8, 2024.

The prosecution led by Chief Inspector Christian Oscar Norgbedzi stated that the complainants in the case are Ms. Millicent Zogli, a janitor at the Ashiaman District Court, along with Inspector Henry Tetteh Nartey, Corporal David Kwame Nyong, and Lance Corporal Rebecca Addo, all Police officers.

On February 1, 2024, the complainants arrested and brought the two accused siblings to the Ashaiman Divisional CID, alleging that on the same day, at about 1:45 pm, while at the court premises, they disturbed the court sittings.

The prosecutor mentioned that the siblings, accompanying their mother, Hamdiya Inusah, in a civil suit against her, verbally assaulted the first complainant, Millicent Zogli, using offensive language.

Peeved by the court’s judgment against their mother, they began to disrupt the proceedings with noise, despite attempts by the Police officers to call them to order.

The accused persons fiercely resisted, attacking and insulting the complainants.

However, they were overpowered, arrested, and subsequently arraigned before the court.
