Two police officers, Lance Corporal Philimon Agbevem and Lance Corporal Peter Gbadagbo have been interdicted for allegedly extorting money from a motor pillion rider in Accra.
The incident reportedly occurred on July 22, 2024.
A statement issued by the police confirmed the interdiction of the two police officers after the allegations went viral, drawing the attention of the police leadership.
The statement further noted that both officers are currently under investigation and are cooperating with the process.
The police assured that the said officers would face the due process of the law.
In recent years, the interdiction of police officers has become increasingly common as the police administration takes steps to address issues of misconduct within its ranks.
This disciplinary action, which temporarily suspends officers from their duties pending the outcome of investigations, has been applied in numerous cases.
In February 2024, a Police Chief Inspector, Benjamin Doe Kuwornu, stationed in the Central Region, was interdicted for unprofessional conduct.
A statement from the police said the officer was sighted by the administration misconducting himself in a video.
In May 2024, three police officers were interdicted over some disturbances at Adugyaman in the Ahafo Ano South East District in the Ashanti Region.
The interdicted officers stationed at the Electoral Commission Office in Adugyaman purportedly failed to execute their responsibilities effectively when faced with attempts to disrupt the voter registration process.
In April 2023, two police officers were interdicted for failing to rescue their colleague when he came under attack by some youth in the Kumawu area of the Ashanti Region.
