2 Perish in Ghastly Accident on Kintampo-Tamale Highway

Two people have met their untimely death in a gory accident at Babator-Kuma off the Kintampo-Tamale road in the Bono East Region.

The accident happened on the afternoon of Thursday, January 5, 2023.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service(GNFS), a Toyota Landcruiser with registration Number GR 5031-U which was carrying three people burst a front tyre and veered off the road, hitting a tree in the process.

All three persons on board were trapped in the wreckage when rescuers arrived at the scene.

“Two males died on the spot and the female sustained various degrees of injury,” a statement from the GNFS said.

The injured victim was rescued and transported to the Kintampo Municipal Hospital for medical attention.

Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased have been sent to the morgue for preservation.

Personnel from the Fire Service have launched an investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident.

Road accidents in the country

The country is losing its human capital to accident-related deaths, and productive lives are being rendered disabled due to severe injuries.

More than 200 people die monthly in road accidents in Ghana, the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has said.

The latest figure was for the period between January 1, 2022, and August 31, 2022, which accounted for 1,600 deaths.

This represents a 16% decrease compared to the same period in 2021, which recorded 1,800 deaths.
