A Kia Rhino truck transporting soft drinks has been involved in a severe accident on the Koforidua to Mamfe Highway in the Eastern Region.
The incident occurred at 5:57 am near Nyamebekyere when the truck, registered GR 6435-23, lost balance on a curve due to a shifted load, causing it to overturn.
The driver’s mate got trapped, prompting a swift response from the Koforidua Municipal Fire Station and the police.
A rescue team led by ADO I Edward Quansah arrived at 6:12 am, and additional assistance with extrication tools was requested.
The trapped victim was successfully freed and taken to the Koforidua Central Hospital for treatment.
Both the driver and mate sustained serious injuries.
Eastern Regional Fire Commander ACFO I Timothy Osafo-Affum later visited the scene to assess the situation.
This incident comes after a gory road accident claimed the lives of 14 passengers, with 16 severely injured on the Goaso-Mim road, leaving a community in shock.
The tragic incident occurred on September 6, 2024.
Eyewitnesses reported that the bus was carrying a group of workers when it was involved in the accident.
The cause of the crash is still unknown.
Information gathered indicates that the vehicle transporting the workers belonged to a Chinese company.
They narrated that some of the victims had their legs and parts of their bodies severed.
Ten men and four women lost their lives.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
