Two persons have been injured in a clash between alleged land guards and wood sellers in Akwatialine at Asokore Mampong Municipality in the Ashanti region.
According to reports, the incident happened on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, when the Akwatialine wood sellers resisted the relocation plan of the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly.
This comes after months of tension between the authorities and the wood sellers over plans to relocate hundreds of wood sellers from their current location to facilitate the redevelopment of the area.
While the contractors extended construction work to their area on Tuesday, some of the wood sellers allegedly got into a confrontation with land guards allegedly hired by the assembly.
This clash resulted in injuries to the two individuals who were sent to a nearby health facility for treatment.
It will be recalled that some wood sellers were injured during a similar confrontation with security operatives in April 2023 when they refused to leave the area.
Meanwhile, the presiding member of the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly, Mathew Amissah, has stated that efforts will be made to address the ongoing conflict between the wood sellers and the authorities involved.
This comes on the heels of allegations by the Minority in Parliament that some government institutions are engaging the services of land guards in protecting state lands.
