The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has interdicted two staff members, Daniel Godsway and George Amoako, following serious allegations of fraud, document forgery, impersonation, and the unauthorised alteration of official documents.

This includes the forged signature of the EPA Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Nana Ama Browne Klutse.

The officers are reported to have created a counterfeit document using Prof. Klutse’s signature and changed its information to misdirect individuals seeking EPA licenses to the wrong location.

The EPA, in a statement, instructed license seekers to report to the Head Office located at ministries in Accra, specifically to “rooms 404 or 405 within 48 hours for discussions with the backroom staff on the detailed processes of regularising their operations.”

In contrast, the forged document misleadingly directed these individuals to “the EPA Head Office, Room B13, within 48 hours for discussions on the detailed processes of regularising their operations.”

A leaked memo signed by the CEO condemned the officers and labelled their conduct as “an egregious misrepresentation of official authority, amounting to forgery, abuse of office, and a fundamental breach of fiduciary duty.”

The memo also noted that their conduct could violate Ghana’s Criminal Code 1960 (Act 29), particularly concerning forgery, fraudulent misrepresentation, and the unauthorised utilisation of official documents.

Both officers have been placed under suspension as the investigation unfolds.

Meanwhile, the EPA has emphasised its dedication to maintaining strict protocols that ensure the integrity and authenticity of its official documents.

Additionally, the authority has issued a strong warning against any unauthorised alterations or manipulations of official documents, stating that such violations are intolerable and will be met with appropriate consequences.
