2 dead, One Injured In Kintampo Highway Accident

Two persons have been confirmed dead in an accident at Babato-Kuma on the Kintampo-Tamale Highway.

Another person is also said to be in critical condition and receiving treatment at the Kintampo Government Hospital.

The unfortunate accident occurred on Tuesday evening, December 27, 2022.

The three were travelling from Kumasi to Tamale in a Toyota Land Cruiser with registration number GR 5031 U.

The vehicle burst its tyre, veered off the road, and hit a tree resulting in the instant death of two men.

They were trapped in the vehicle for a while before personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) rescued them.

The victims have been identified as Obuasi Gold Mines employees who were travelling from Obuasi to Tamale.

Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased persons have been deposited at the Kintampo Government Hospital.

Road accidents in the country

The country is losing its human capital to accident-related deaths, and productive lives are being rendered disabled due to severe injuries.

More than 200 people die monthly in road accidents in Ghana, the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has said.

The latest figure was for the period between January 1, 2022, and August 31, 2022, which accounted for 1,600 deaths.

This represents a 16% decrease compared to the same period in 2021, which recorded 1,800 deaths.
