2 dead, many injured in accident at Gomoa Simbrofo

Two people have reportedly lost their lives in a tragic accident at Gomoa Simbrofo in the Gomoa West District on the Winneba-Mankesim Highway of the Central Region.

The accident happened around 5 a.m. on May 23, 2024.

Information gathered indicates that a Sprinter bus with registration GT 5873-09 which was fully loaded from Kaneshie to Takoradi lost control after one of its back tyres burst.

The driver struggled to maintain control of the vehicle, but eventually veered off the road and ran into a tree.

Two people reportedly died on the spot.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene to assist the injured passengers.

Several passengers who sustained various degrees of injury were transported to the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital for medical treatment.

In a similar vein, three people died and others were injured in an accident at Anyinasusu in the Offinso South Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The incident occurred on Tuesday around 11 p.m.

Confirming the incident, the Assemblyman for Anyinasusu, Ibrahim Yogo, stated that the driver of the Yutong bus travelling from Kumasi to Gaaru was overspeeding and collided with the Kia Rhino vehicle, transporting mangoes.

Mr. Yogo confirmed that three people died on the spot, with many others injured.

The victims are currently receiving treatment at St. Patrick’s Government Hospital at Maase-Offinso, while the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the mortuary.

Mr Yogo attributed the accident to the absence of speed bumps on the road.

Also, on May 19, 2024, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s convoy was involved in a fatal accident near Bunso Junction in the eastern region.

According to reports, the convoy was crossed by a KIA Rhino truck, resulting in a collision that claimed the life of one individual and left others seriously injured.

Again, on Sunday, May 19, two people died in a multi-vehicle accident at Akuni No. 2 along the Adukrom-Somanya highway in the Eastern Region.

The deceased, all women, included a sports teacher and national service personnel from Yilo Krobo Senior High School.

Their Toyota Corolla, with registration number GR 901-21, collided head-on with a pickup truck with registration number GV 1263-20.

According to sources, the driver of the pickup truck allegedly engaged in a wrong overtaking in a curve, leading to the fatal collision that killed the two on the spot.
